The rule of "N"
In a physical IT environment, resilience is provided by using an "N+M" approach, providing physical redundancy to equipment. In the virtual world, incremental approaches can be used, optimising the rule of "N".

If an organisation is using a one application per server approach, ensuring that all servers are resilient requires each server to be backed up byanother server. In a virtualised environment, each virtual server can be backed up by a thinly provisioned virtual server, minimising resource requirements.
