Clive Longbottom

Clive Longbottom

Clive Longbottom is founder of Quocirca and is a highly respected and globally recognised industry analyst, covering a range of business and technology areas.

Clive’s primary coverage area is business process facilitation. Here, Clive covers the need for companies to understand their core processes across their value chains, and the technologies that should be used to facilitate them in the most flexible and effective manner. Clive also brings an understanding of how the collision of existing and emerging technologies requires full business involvement to decide on the best direction forward for an organisation’s current and future needs. Like all Quocirca analysts, Clive believes technology is never a solution in itself.

Clive has been an ITC industry analyst for over 20 years. Clive has worked with a range of large and small analyst companies, including META Group (now Gartner) as VP Europe.

Prior to becoming an analyst Clive had a mix of end-user experience; working as a process engineer in the chemical and research industries, as well as ITC work and project management in large and medium sized organisations in the UK, as well as work in the US and Europe. This breadth of experience, combined with Quocirca’s on-going research, gives Clive a solid viewpoint on the pressures and problems impacting businesses – Clive's pragmatic approach concentrates on the provision of actionable advice, keeping away from "flavours of the month" and from the economically unsound advice of total platform replacement often put forward by those who have not had to deal with the realities of business in the past.

Clive is a regular public presenter as a keynote presenter at vendor and independent events, as well as through webinars for outlets such as Computing and PCPro. Clive is also a prolific contributor to technology and business readers through media outlets such us TechTarget through his data centre and virtualisation columns and TechRepublic through Quocirca's Straight Talking column, and also through regular columns on V3 and Computer Weekly, along with many other outlets worldwide. Clive has been a regular judge for silicon.com's Agenda Setters, for the Lotusphere Beacon awards and for many other technology and business awards. Consistently placed high in Apollo Research’s "top European quoted analysts" tables, Clive understands the importance of dealing with the media at a sensible level - not just being a "rent a quote", but helping the journalists understand the real issues behind the headlines.

Clive’s work in promoting how technology can help those in underserved regions was recognised in 2007 when he was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Promotion of the Arts, Commerce and Manufacturing (FRSA).

Clive has a B.Sc. (Hons) in Chemical Engineering from the University of Aston in the UK
